In recent weeks, I admittedly have become a little bit apprehensive about our country as it moves forward. Our continued politicization of the Coronavirus pandemic is tearing us apart in a time where we need to come together for the common good.
That being said, we have to reopen the entire country as soon as possible.
We have unemployment rates around 15%, which is the highest since the Great Depression. If this continues, a large number of people in the U.S., those living paycheck to paycheck, could face dire consequences. Small businesses and restaurants are starting to close down because they can’t afford to pay the bills anymore.
How do we solve this? Everyone under 50 years old & healthy needs to go back to work.
Everyone over 50 or anyone with compromised immune systems should be given a choice on whether they want to shelter at home or take the risk and go back to work.
For those under 50 years old, the Coronavirus is a statistically insignificant issue.
Think of it like this. There are literally a thousand ways to die. Heart attack. Car accident. Cancer. Why would you hyper focus on the Coronavirus on being a larger threat than any of those other possible events?
I understood the original idea behind the lockdowns, which was to flatten the curve. All we heard about from local and federal governments was that we were going to flatten the curve. Blah blah blah flatten the curve. And we have, but they moved the benchmark.
There is a fine line between local and state governments looking out for people’s well being and creating a society with massive unemployment and the issues that come along with that.
We have gotten to the point where some people want to open the country, and some want to stay locked down. It’s interesting as it seems to follow political lines. The media hasn’t helped either. There has been tons of misinformation and downright confusion on what numbers to trust and whose opinions to listen to.
I am adamant that we have to forget our differences, use logic, and look to make the best decision for the greater good.
That decision is to get back to work.
